"The truth shall set you free" ... if the person you will be talking to can handle the truth :) However sometimes there are things that are better left unsaid. I remember reading from an article of Max Lucado :
" Insensitivity makes a wound that heals slowly. If someone hurts your feelings intentionally you know how to react. You know the source of the pain. But if someone accidentally bruises your soul, it’s difficult to know how to respond"
Even if you mean well, sometimes its better to think twice before saying anything. Why should I say this ? Will it improve the situation if I do ? What are my intentions ? Will it help at all ?
Saying something and wishing I hadn't or wishing I had said it better is more painful for me. When I keep silent, I tend to keep my peace and console myself that I can speak up later, but when something is said, it becomes irretreivable. Eloquence is silver but silence is gold.
Some things are better left unsaid. Some things must be said to the person concerned before he/she gets it from another source.Usually the most trusted people are the ones left to decide. In some cases,OMERTA is strictly observed. As stated by intelligence and covert military units-"Need to Know Basis only."
